Many moons ago as a student I took up kickboxing. All those memories of watching Karate Kid in my youth came flooding back; I was motivated and already earned a top rank…in my head! Unfortunately it was short lived. I clearly wasn’t ready to put in the hard work and dedication to get that top rank or even a decent skill level.
I’m still working on getting back into training if only to keep fit and Toulouse has plenty of Martial Arts and Combat Sport clubs that cater for adults as well as children.
Royal Naresuan Boxing is one that I can recommend. Owned and run by Gafary Boussari, it has the most titled group of members and teaching staff in the Midi-Pyrénées and offers training in Muay Thai, Jiu Jutsu, Kung Fu and Boxe Anglaise. Children can start from the age of 5 and they also run a female-only training session in kickboxing.
As a member you’re also free to work on your skills in the gym outside of class sessions. Novices and enthusiasts are welcome, but be warned you’ll be training with European champions and possibly trained by a World title holder, so don’t expect it to be a walk in the park! However, the gym has a lively atmosphere and is very welcoming, so you’ll feel a part of the “family” in no time.
